Darryl Birch, known as ‘Daz’, commenced in the role of Team Leader of the Biosecurity Team in March, 2024.
You may recognise Darryl from his time working on the operational phases of the Rodent Eradication Project, during which time he helped design and implement effective biosecurity protocols that remain in place.
Darryl is an arborist by trade and diversified into conservation ecology. He has worked on several remote islands around the Indian Ocean and African sub-continent, and in West Africa to help protect rare species and habitats from the threat of non-native invasive species, habitat loss, and aggressive human intervention.
Hailing from rural Northumberland in the UK, Darryl’s partner, Rebecca, and sons, Leon and Miles, will live on LHI for up to three years.
Darryl looks forward to working with the community and the LHIB Environment team to develop systems to protect LHI from biosecurity threats in the future.
