Minister Visits LHICS
During August, Lord Howe Island Central School hosted the Hon. Penny Sharpe MLC, NSW Minister for Climate Change, Energy, Heritage, and the Environment. We all enjoyed the visit, and it was a wonderful opportunity for students to interact with a member of the NSW Government leadership team. Minister Sharpe was extremely impressed by our kids, writing….
The special connection you have with the Island was most evident for me when I visited the school. The children of Lord Howe were telling me about the endemic wildlife on their island. Their extensive knowledge of local birds, fish and insects was incredibly impressive. I was also interested in their views of what sort of ship you need to replace the old one.
Well done team LHICS!
Brilliant Book Week
Our school community came together in August to celebrate Book Week, where imagination comes to life! We began the week with our K-2 class joining a live, interactive online classroom with kids from across NSW, facilitated by the team at the Sydney Opera House.
Next, it was time to unleash our creativity and bring our most beloved stories and characters to life, with our annual Book Week dress-up and parade. We even had a special visit from our preschool friends! With a fantastic community turn-out, we made lots of memories amid the sounds of laughter and faces full of smiles.
Happy Father’s Day!
Thanks to our amazing P&C, our dads were very spoilt for Father’s Day with a fresh coffee and yummy bacon and egg roll to start their day! A very special Father’s Day treat.
Cross Country
In September, our long-awaited (it had been postponed due to weather about a gazillion times!) Cross Country carnival finally got off and running. Everyone gave it their all, with a stunning backdrop and great support for each other, no matter the House. For the record, Gower just beat Lidgbird on the day! Thanks to all of our volunteers and family supporters who made it a great afternoon all around.
Athletics Carnival
Speaking of fun community events, we recently held our school Athletics Carnival. The weather was perfect, with families, staff and kids coming together to celebrate teamwork and individual skill.
Great sportsmanship was shown, records were broken, and we had the best day. Just like Cross Country, this super day wouldn’t have happened without our army of volunteers on the day and before the event, with a special shout-out to Chad for his marathon line-marking feats the day prior! From all of us, we send a huge thanks to all of you!
Special Yoga Session
Our young yoga enthusiasts ended Term 3 with a special yoga class, a treat they very much look forward to. Thanks to Nikki from Lord Howe Yoga for her enthusiasm and time; the kids love it and are learning lifelong skills at the same time!
Jokes of the Month
Q: What do you call a line of dads waiting to get haircuts?
A: A barberqueue!
And one more….
Can anyone tell me what oblivious means, because I have no idea?
