Pen Pals

After writing letters and then waiting for what seemed like forever, our 3-6 class finally received return letters from their Pen Pals at Moama Public School last week!

Students had a great time reading through the letters during the morning and writing back to their distant friends, answering questions about life on Lord Howe and describing their hobbies and things they enjoy about Lord Howe.

TV Stars

Lord Howe Island Central School became the focus of an ABC TV crew in late May, with reporters Emma Siossian and Hannah Ross visiting to capture a little piece of our school’s magic to share with the world! The kids loved being involved, with several putting their hands up to explain why they love our school and our Island. Everyone did a fantastic job and made us very proud.

The story won’t be aired for several weeks, but rest assured we will let you all know when we have a confirmed date.

Books Galore!

We recently held our annual Book Fair, with our Library decked out with a huge range of quality books, posters, and other fun items. Our Fair was a huge success and means more books are in the hands of our kids – a win all round. A big shout out to everyone who supported the Fair and to Mrs T for going above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly and everyone was looked after!

Making Hay While the Sun Shines

Kids love getting their hands dirty, even more so for a team goal! Our Green Team have been working hard together in our vegetable patch, improving soil, and preparing beds ready for planting. We can’t wait to see what they can produce!

Perfect Poets

Here at LHICS, we are very proud of our amazing students who show strengths and skills in so many areas. This week, some of our aspiring poets have wowed us with their clever work and talents. Pictured here is Charlo from Year 4 with two of her wonderful works.

Joke of the Month

Most people can’t tell the difference between etymology and entomology. I can’t find the words for how much this bugs me!

And here’s one for the young ones…

I had a dream that I weighed less than a thousandth of a gram. I was like, 0mg!

Last thought

It’s easy to stand with the crowd, but it takes courage to stand alone.
