Letter from the Editor October 2024

The Island is going through a period of change and one of the most important involves Qantaslink which has decided to codeshare the Lord Howe route with another airline “Skytrans”. Skytrans is a Cairns-based airline servicing northern Queensland destinations including a few remote Islands. The community and regular visitors will look forward to a smooth transition. We await to see if Skytrans will provide an equivalent or better service than the service we have enjoyed with Qantas in terms of safety, price, reliability, frequent flyer rewards and on-carriage to and from other destinations.

Unfortunately, this month we bid farewell to Bruce McFayden who played a significant role in the history of the Island through his family’s part ownership of Pinetree’s lodge and as an Island representative on the Lord Howe Island Board for many years. We will miss him dearly. Our sincere condolences go to Kerry, Kate and Andrew.
