Congratulations to Zann Maxwell on being elected the Deputy Lord Mayor of Sydney. It was a proud and exciting moment for many of the local Island families when Zann decided to stand for the post of the Lord Mayor of Sydney as Labor party candidate.
Zann Maxwell is a proud son of Lord Howe Island, born on the Island to Darryl Shick and Phillipa Grant. He comes back to the Island regularly to see his families. We wish him all the best in his new challenge as Deputy Lord Mayor of Sydney.
The City of Sydney overlaps the federal electorate of Sydney which includes Lord Howe Island, and is represented by Tanya Plibersek, also from the Labor Party.
Zann led a campaign that got the best result for Labor since 2004. He came second, doubled Labor’s representation on the council, and broke Clover Moore’s majority for the first time.
His campaign focused on Sydney’s affordability crisis, getting its nightlife and vibrancy firing again, and rebuilding basic services like garbage collection, which Clover Moore had outsourced.
