In October last year, Transport New South Wales announced that Skytrans had been awarded the RPT Air route from Sydney to Lord Howe Island as a replacement for the QantasLink service which had operated since June, 1991.
An information bulletin issued by the Lord Howe Island Board invited members of the public to join a “virtual” QA session with Skytrans CEO, Alan Milne, in the Public Hall on Wednesday, 19th March, at 4.30pm. Attendance at the Public Hall was good and it was also possible for interested individuals to join the Q & A session online. A range of questions about the coming air service transition were fielded by Alan Milne, although there appeared to be some unresolved issues like the availability of a frequent flyer program on Skytrans and the awarding of a ground handling contract for Skytrans at Lord Howe Island.
After the meeting, requests for a summary of answers were directed to Qantas by Steve Sia, (Signal editor), and to Skytrans via the Lord Howe Island Board by Chris Murray (a former QantasLink contractor). At the time of publication, however, no response had been received from either airline.
