Volunteers have made significant contributions to the control and eradication of invasive weeds on LHI since 2004. During winter, the LHIB Weed Eradication Program welcomed 12 skilled bush regenerator volunteers to undertake search and control of invasive weed species.
Each volunteer committed to a 4-week placement, totalling 260 person days across June, July, and August. The volunteers helped search over 100ha of terrain and removed over 5,000 individual weeds. 93% of these were seedlings and juvenile plants, preventing a new generation of weeds in our native forests.
LHIB would like to sincerely thank each of the incredible volunteers who gave up their time – Bailey Smith, Maddy Moss, Laura Bridle, Emma Madgwick, Nic Biltoft, Miranda Boyle, Judy Bresgi, Sophie Rallings, Rachel Fleming, Bronti Middleby, Josie Stephenson, and Christina Senn. Their contributions will make a lasting difference to our natural environment.
